Challenge America and BioEnterprise Kick Off Fall 2019 CAMVETS Make-a-thon for Injured Vets
Challenge America, BioEnterprise, Cleveland Clinic and VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System will kick off the Fall 2019 Challenge America: Makers for Veterans (CAMVETS) program with a Welcome Reception on Aug. 28 at the Global Center for Health Innovation. CAMVETS is a biannual make-a-thon that enlists the talents of engineers, designers and other professionals to create innovative solutions to serve the unmet needs of injured veterans. This event launches the registration process to participate as a maker team.
Attendees will:
- Meet the veteran participants that maker teams will collaborate with this fall and learn more about the physical and mental challenges they face.
- Network with community leaders and industry and university partners who are engaged with the CAMVETS initiative.
- Learn more about opportunities for designers, engineers, students, companies or other industry professionals to get involved in CAMVETS.
FALL PROGRAM TIMELINE
Official CAMVETS Kick-off, Sept. 20, St. Edward High School. Selected maker teams will meet for the official launch on Sept. 20 at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio. Teams will meet their veteran teammate, learn more about that individual’s challenges and start to ideate solutions.
CAMVETS Make-a-thon, Nov. 8 to Nov. 10, St. Edward High School. After six weeks of off-site meetups and planning, maker teams reconvene for a three-day design sprint, Nov. 8 to 10 to build their prototypes together with the veteran participants.
CAMVETS Closing Ceremony, Nov. 11, Global Center for Health Innovation. Maker teams and their veteran teammates will present their prototypes in front of a live audience at the Global Center for Health Innovation on Nov. 11, Veterans Day. Attendees can interact with the teams and veterans, leaning about the impact these prototypes might have on their lives.
CAMVETS partners include BioEnterprise, VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, St. Edward High School, VHA Innovation Ecosystem, Cleveland Clinic, Northeast Ohio Foundation for Patriotism, and Balance Innovation and Design.
