Ohio Ranked 4th Best Place for Biomedical Business

Ohio ranks fourth in Business Facilities magazine’s annual State Biotechnology Strength rankings.

Using government statistics and the latest State Bioscience Initiatives Report, prepared by the Biotechnology Industry Organization and Battelle, as a starting point, Business Facilities identified more than 20 key criteria to rank overall biotechnology strength.

Criteria included the amount of state R&D funding and venture capital investments; the level of concentrated occupational employment in biotech; tax exemptions specifically targeted to biotech; the number of biotech facilities; biotech patents generated; university grant funding; and bioscience higher education degrees, among other factors.

Below are the rankings as released by Business Facilities magazine:

Ohio also was ranked fourth in Site Selection magazine’s 2009 state business climate rankings.
